Frank H. Mesow, a German native, moved to Wisconsin with his family in 1868. He became a contractor just like his father.
After working on projects in the Midwest and Washington State he eventually settled in the San Francisco Bay Area working
on many contracting projects in San Francisco, Berkeley, and Oakland. He married Emma Bierwirth, also a native of Germany,
around 1879. They had eight children one of which was Helen Francis Mesow. Helen, born blind, was an Opera singer.
